Race Committee Requirement

Each skipper of record/eligible skipper is required to serve as Race Committee for a minimum of two series dates. In the event of an open Race Committee assignment, slots will be filled at random by the Fleet Captain.

Protests / Protest Committee

Protests must be filed within ½ hour of the Committee’s return to the dock. Race Committee is responsible for hearing and deciding protest filed on the date of their duty.

Series Scoring

The Spring and Summer Series’ will be scored using the Low Point System. Boats will be scored using their best finishes. The minimum number of races required to qualify for these series is indicated on the schedule. The minimum number of races required to qualify will be reduced by one for every two races cancelled in a series.

The Fall Series (Sunday and Wednesday) will be scored on a High Point System. One point will be awarded for each boat beaten in all scheduled races, with an additional point awarded for each race sailed.

Rules

Races will be governed by the US Sailing rules, I.L.C.A. (Lightnings) and L.C.A. (Lasers) except for Lightning crew requirement and series scoring.

Race Course

Course configuration to be determined by the Race Committee with appropriate course flag and diagram displayed on the Committee Boat.

Time Limit

First boat must complete the first leg of the race in 30 minutes. First boat must finish the race in 1 ½ hours. All races must be a minimum of three legs. All Sunday Series races in June, July and August must be completed by 12:30 p.m. in accordance with DNR restrictions.

Boat / Skipper Eligibility Requirements

Only Lightnings owned by “Active” I.L.C.A. members are eligible to sail in P.Y.C. Lightning races.
There are three classes of skippers:

1. Skipper of Record
2. Eligible Skipper
3. Guest Skipper

Only Skippers of Record and Eligible Skippers are able to qualify for a Series. A Series can be either a Club Regatta or a Club Series.

A Skipper of Record must be:

1. A member of Pontiac Yacht Club
2. An owner of an I.L.C.A. registered Lightning, and
3. An I.L.C.A. “Active” member.

When there is more than one individual who qualifies as Skipper of Record for a particular boat, all of the individuals who qualify as Skipper of Record for the boat will collectively be the Skipper of Record. The Skipper of Record will be scored by the Race Committee unless the Race Committee is otherwise notified.

An Eligible Skipper is:

1. A member of Pontiac Yacht Club, and
2. A member of I.L.C.A.
OR
1. One of the individuals who qualifies as a Skipper of Record in a case where there is more than one individual qualifying as Skipper of Record for a particular boat.

In order for an Eligible Skipper to qualify for a Series, the Race Committee must be notified by the skipper, prior to each race that the Eligible Skipper will sail. It is the skipper’s responsibility to ensure the change is properly noted on the register / finish log.

A Guest Skipper is:

Any skipper other than a Skipper of Record or Eligible Skipper. A Guest Skipper must register with the Race Committee as a Guest Skipper. The finish position of a Guest Skipper will be recorded for the race as any other boat. Any individual Guest Skipper may not skipper in more than two races in a single season.
