New Lease of Life for the Whaler Print E-mail
Written by Andy

New Lease On Life for the PYC Whaler In early March, Brian Nickels delivered the PYC Whaler from his shop near Fenton, where he had spent the winter refurbishing the boat, and getting her ready for our 75th season of racing. Gone are the old scratches, scrapes, and dings to the hull and the hundreds of nicks and grooves in the rubrail from bouncing off Old Blue and pulling up bouy anchors. The rub rail
has been replaced; a new, much sturdier motor mount has been installed; the exterior has been entirely re-gel coated; and new Club Burgee hull graphics and MC numbers applied. The boat looks BEAUTIFUL!
Additional plans for improving the functionality of the Whaler include replacing the switches on the console that control lights, radio and new depth sounder.

Tribute Print E-mail

As you relax on the PYC porch and gaze out at beautiful Cass Lake, there is an addition to this view. Between the sidewalk and the play structure a white birch tree has been planted and if the tree could talk to you, it would say “I am here in memory of Max Clixby.”

This year PYC lost Max, a longstanding and enthusiastic member.

He joined the club in 1969 and sailed his Lightning, Wee Heather with his wife, Jean and their two sons, David and Gerry. The club was the setting for many family gatherings and, as Max settled into the club, when he saw a job which needed to be done he took the initiative and went right ahead and did it.

Max had a great sense of humor. When the Clixby’s and friends chartered a bareboat in the Caribbean, he appeared on deck the last day dressed in business suit and tie as if that was the only outfit he had packed and not worn He was fun to be with and you never knew what he was going to do next.

Max represented the expertise, willingness and humor which are part of PYC’s history.
